Real Rock Return Riddim Rare Rating: 7,8/10 7230 votes

Dub consists predominantly of instrumental remixes of existing recordings and is achieved by significantly manipulating and reshaping the recordings, usually by removing the vocals from an existing music piece, emphasizing the drum and bass parts (this stripped down track is sometimes referred to as a 'riddim'). Other techniques include dynamically adding extensive echo, reverb, panoramic delay, techno beats and occasional dubbing of vocal or instrumental snippets from the original version or other works. Also check out. Some people like him, i don't too much. His dubs are very 'safe' imo.

Cloak and Dagger is one of my favs as well.Modern band from Queens NY. More on the rocksteady wave.

The progression goes Ska-Rocksteady-Reggae-Dub-Dancehall. Rocksteady was made from less jazzy musicians getting into music and recreating the soul sound in american but with a Jamaican twist. Heavy emphasis on groove compared to ska.Currently one of my favorite dubs. ITS NOT THAT I DON'T LOVEEE YOUUUUReal dubby, real slow.Early Dancehall.,.Essentially early dancehall, before digital dubs became a thing, was toasting over dubs. Rhyhtm and Sound good for some smooth shit with the dub vibe.,.

Check the video, thats the sound system vibe right there.Riddim killah, name a riddim and beenie man killed it. This is 90s dancehall.GTA IV got me hip in 2008 lol.

DRIVAHHHHHHHsome experiemtnal techno riddim dub.More reggaeton. This uses the Reggaeton uses the; Reggaeton comes after dancehall but both got the same wave. I just love these thingsPunk always been influenced by Dub and Reggae culture. Emphasis on the bass. Not as familiar with this genre but Joy Division is also a good start. You said feed you and i did it lol.

Watch some videos of Channel One, Aba Shanti-I, and Jah Shaka soundystems playing live on Youtube - that's how we get down UK style:) they don't play strictly dub but are a great source of dubs and vocal cuts alike that you won't likely find anywhere else. This is my favorite channel one video, I was there with some uni friends that night. Favorite comment 'my eyes got wet because of this unity happiness'And here's the first in a series of mixes of channel one-type stuff to get you started in that direction if you like what you hear. Lee Perry is my personal avatar and moral compass. The Black Ark box (Arkology) is essential, but I also recommend Blackboard Jungle Dub and also Double Seven. Blackboard Jungle Dub is an an AWESOME two disc set called Dub Triptych that also includes Cloak and Dagger, all super fantasticness.

Get this first. As dank as it gets. For deep and dark, look for the Dub Massive compilations put together by Bill Laswell, they are great comps, I particularly like Chapter Two. The disc will set you back a ton, but you stream it or get it from bandcamp.

I also like Laswell's own stuff, which is less explicitly reggae, but often has tablas and other beats. Check Radioaxiom: A Dub Transmission. He also does some ambient stuff that can be good. Many people swear by Adrian Sherwood and his On-U Sound productions. I am not as much of a fan but given that he's still going and crosses into more modern sounds, he is worth checking out.

British White dude. Also, I like Dennis Bovell, esp his work with Linton Kwesi Johnson on LKJ in Dub. This stuff is closer to the roots and with a little less effects, but I like it a lot (cause I also like LKJ).
